2013: Orfeo ed Euridice

[Note: this information is for a past production, from 2013]

Gli Spiritosi (un consorzio musicale) is the performance and production team of Susan Bywaters and Allegra Durante. They first joined forces in February of 2012, and decided to collaborate professionally beginning this summer. Gli Spiritosi aim to present creative, youthful, and spirited productions of operatic repertoire, from the standard to the slightly-less-so.

First up is Orfeo ed Euridice by C. W. von Gluck.

Our production will be staged in the round in an intimate venue, and the singers will perform in full costume. In addition to the three principal singers of the opera, a quartet of soloists will sing the music of the chorus, and a chamber orchestra will play the production with many of their own arrangements.

Though much of the music will be familiar, you’ll be treated to some rarely-performed pieces, including a finale that’s completely different from what you’d see in a production with the classic full orchestra!

Friday, July 26th and Saturday, July 27th, 7:30 p.m.
The Chapel, Grace House, 218 West 108th St., Manhattan

Tickets will be $15 at the door.
Grace House is part of the Church of the Ascension on 107th St., and this opera is produced in agreement with the church’s music program.
